Overview

The SLS Plus is a family of automobile industry approved and certified sensors for in-process and end of line gauging to ensure quality in fit and finish at all stages of the automobile manufacturing process.  The resulting data enables 100% monitoring and feedback of all critical points during the vehicle production process. All of our products are designed to meet or exceed the specific requirements of our customers. LMI has been providing innovative solutions to the automotive industry since 1972, coupling experience with advanced measurement technologies. Today the results of this are evident in our robust systems.

As one of the originators of gauging systems for the automotive industry the SLS Plus utilizes robust algorithms to determine the quality of manufacturing at every step.  For fixed measurement, the EOL sensors have a full compliment of ranges available to meet all gauging requirements throughout the automotive manufacturing plant.  For flexible manufacturing, the ERS sensor's compact and light design specifically for use on robot measurement stations with built in co-axial lighting in a rugged, sealed case provides flexibility and reliability.  All SLS Plus sensors include full temperature compensation to maintain accuracy in varying plant environments.

A distributed architecture has the capacity to connect sensors from different locations along a production line with the ability to provide information over ethernet to the plant wide enterprise system.

EOL (End of Line Sensor)

LMI EOL (End of Line Sensors)3D laser sensors for in-process & end of line stations that are fully integrated along a manufacturing line provide 100% gauging to ensure there is no mis-manufactured parts in process or at the final inspections.

Combine different sensor types with multiple stations using lightweight, rugged, industrial multi-drop cables. Common cables and mounting provide simple integration for distributed sensing.

All sensors are equipped with patented weld splatter protection for long term reliability.

All SLS Plus Sensors include full temperature compensation to maintain accuracy in varying plant environments for day in day out consistency of measurement points.  Enhanced performance in high ambient light conditions are achieved through special optics and camera techniques.  All sensors have on-board calibration tables for easy setup, relocation and replacement saving installation and maintenance time.  Integral LED’s for surface illumination reduce package size and simplify mounting and cabling.

All sensors feature fast acquisition and analysis times for 100% monitoring (typically 150 msec for laser line, and 300 msec for full 3D image acquisition and analysis) which will allow faster production cycle times.

ERS (Robot Sensor)

LMI ERS (Robot Sensor)

The optimal solution to measure multiple models on an assembly line is offered by our ERS sensor systems. The advantage for you is a fantastic price to performance ratio and the possibility to change or add new gage points or new models simply by reprogramming the robot path.

LMI offers integrated 3D sensor robotic systems to meet the inspection requirements of flexible assembly lines. Integrated solutions include not only coupling the robot and 3D sensor, but also implementing temperature compensation hardware and software to eliminate effects of thermal growth of the robot. Our data reporting software is a standard part of this package.
LMI robotic inspection systems are implemented for in-line body in white and sub-assembly applications as well as off-line for an extremely economical replacement for multiple check fixtures.

Typical applications include inspection for glass insertion, closure insertion, hinge position, fender insertion and component loading.

K20 Gage Processor

The K20 Gage Processor is a compact and intelligent processing unit for use with SLS Plus family of sensors.

It processes images from multiple SLS Plus sensors and communicates measurement data from the sensors to a host computer over an Ethernet connection. Up to 10 SLS Plus sensors can be connected to a single K20 Gage Processor for cost effective implementation of large distributed gaging systems with many sensors.  Providing a single location to connect multiple SLS sensor reduces wiring costs and installation times for the overall system.  Optional configurations can support up to 15 sensors. Multiple K20 Gage Processors can run in parallel for even larger systems, or to decrease overall system cycle times.

The K20 contains built in processing algorithms for a complete spectrum of measurement types required for inspection of automotive stampings and assemblies. It also applies sensor calibration and temperature compensation to every measurement point to insure always precise, robust measurement data is sent to the host for every measurement point for every part inspected.
