Overview
Better Roadways Start Here
RoLine sensors are high speed laser line sensors for surface profiling. These sensors output profile data at a user selectable number of points for full profile data as well a calculated mean surface position, based on user selectable parameters.
RoLine sensors are designed for the toughest range of environmental conditions, including being used outdoors in sunlight, or subject to high vibration and uncontrolled temperatures.
Applications
For the Road Ahead
RoLine sensors are frequently implemented in profiling of roads and runways. The laser line measurement principle is ideal for profiling coarse textured surfaces such as tined concrete, where surface profiles can be analyzed to determine the surface point where the tire will contact, and ignoring data from the grooves.

In road profiling, two RoLine sensors are mounted on the profiling vehicle, in each wheel path to determine the flatness of the pavement. With RoLine’s 3 kHz scan rate, accurate data can be obtained even when traveling at highway speed.
Robust sensor operation is provided by RoLine even in the outdoor environment, subject to sunlight, temperature variation, shock and vibration. RoLine sensors operate accurately on all pavement surfaces, varying from black asphalt to bright new concrete.
The profiling system uses data from the RoLine sensors, combined with data from accelerometers, GPS monitors and other sensors to determine the full profile of the pavement. This information is used to check the ride quality of new pavement, and for monitoring wear and maintenance requirements on existing pavement.
Features
Robust operation
RoLine sensors are designed to provide accurate, reliable data on all surfaces, even varying from black asphalt to bright new concrete.
High speed profiling
High speed profile scanning at up to 3 kHz for inspecting the fastest moving surfaces.
Multiple output modes
RoLine sensors output both full profile data and a “bridged” output of a single value representing a calculated mean surface location.
Robust environmental performance
RoLine sensors operate in outdoor environments, not affected by sunlight or temperature variations. They can be mounted on moving vehicles, operating without errors due to shock and vibration.
